Training of partner country instructors by EU professors
Athens, June 21-25; Alicante, September 9-10 2008
 
 


The retraining program for FEEN instructors has been developed at TEI and UA. Professors who are involved in preparation of retraining program for FEEN instructors are: Prof. Dr. Katerina Georgouli, Dr Cleo Sgouropoulou and Prof. Dr. Ifigenia Founta from TEI and Prof. Sergio Lujan, Prof. Pedro Pernias Peco and Dr. Jaume Aragonés Ferrero from UA. The retraining of instructors has been done during two intensive workshops in Athens and Alicante. It was followed by individual work of each instructor with corresponding EU professor according to instructor’s specific task in Continuous Education Center. Training program encompassed: Learning Management System technologies, didactics in Informatics, instructional design, blended learning, videoconferencing technology, pedagogical tools on the net, using of virtual repository in education, managing teaching process on Moodle platform. Retrained instructors are well prepared for work in Continuous Education Center. They are able to install, use and manage LMS, to instruct others by blended method, to prepare multimedia teaching material, to use modern pedagogical tools, i.e. to take advantages of modern technologies in teaching. In the original application the following five courses were planed:

  1. E- learning system usage
  2. Computer architecture and networks
  3. Modern programming concepts
  4. Internet technologies
  5. Multimedia teaching materials preparation

According to the needs analyses and advices of EU professors the following organization of courses was found as more convenient for informatics teachers:

  1. Basics on e-learning
  2. Computer networks and internet technologies
  3. Modern programming concepts
  4. Databases
  5. Interesting informatics in elementary schools

These courses have passed accreditation process by Serbian Ministry of Education and are included in national program of continuous education of primary and secondary school's teachers. Course catalogue can be found on following address (our courses are listed on pp.161-168):

The retraining of instructors has been done during two intensive workshops in Athens and Alicante. It was followed by individual work of each instructor with corresponding EU professor according to instructor’s specific task in Continuous Education Center. 6 professors and 6 teaching assistants, totally 12 instructors from FEEN were retrained. They had been selected from the staff of Computer Science Department at FEEN, University of Nis. All retrained instructors are with rich teaching experience, good IT skills and fluent English. Training program encompassed: Learning Management System technologies, didactics in Informatics, instructional design, blended learning, videoconferencing technology, pedagogical tools on the net, using of virtual repository in education, managing teaching process on Moodle platform.

After retraining process, instructors are able to install, use and manage LMS, to instruct others by blended method, to prepare multimedia teaching material, to use modern pedagogical tools, i.e. to take advantages of modern technologies in teaching. They are ready to apply adopted teaching methodology, blended learning, in retraining of informatics teachers in Serbia.
